In this project, a redesign of a smartphone application was developed. We defined a user profile and focused on their needs. In the next step, we analyzed the overall context in which the app is used and organized the information structure and its model. Optimized user flows were created, and user-relevant features were added. A cohesive, function-oriented interaction and visual design was then developed. Regular user testing was conducted to validate and iterate on product hypotheses based on the current status. The result was a new mobile user experience.
The MoneyStats app is a digital budgeting app. Our goal was to design an app that serves as a daily companion and is easy to use, even without financial expertise.
MoneyStats offers various features to help you keep track of your expenditures and budget your expenses accurately.
Budgets
In the "Budgets" section, you can create budgets for your monthly expenses and easily monitor them with an overview.
Account Management
The "Account Management" feature allows users to display their accounts in the app and synchronize them. All processes related to your finances can be managed here.
Debt Management
Additionally, you can track borrowed and loaned amounts through the "Debt Management" section. A reminder function alerts you about upcoming due dates. You can also pay off debts via online transfer directly through the app.
Savings Goals
The "Savings Goals" feature motivates users to set aside money each month to save for their goals. An overview helps you see whether you’ve reached these goals.
Here is an overview of the design process.
The following phases were carried out: empathize, define, and ideate.
The previous app was confusing, with misleading and inconsistent menu navigation.
The user was overwhelmed with information and couldn't find their way around.
Debora, an aspiring policewoman who wants to keep track of her finances to make it through the month and save for a vacation, needs an easy-to-use app that doesn't require financial expertise.
All content in the app is organized and structured within an information architecture. This is the structural design of content to enable intuitive access based on the product’s purpose and user needs.
This project was completed in collaboration with Luis Pflüger and Yannick Hoffmeister at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Schwäbisch Gmünd, in the course Application Design by Rebecca Schellhorn. The goal was to teach basic user-centered methods of analysis, iterative product development, prototyping and design in a mobile context.
